Compassion Child Update

I haven't written about my sponsored child on here in awhile. Partially because I've forgotten to scan in the letters. But, when I got my Christmas update from Sandra, I decided I should post the updated news.

Sweet Sandra is now seven years old. (She had a birthday in September). Pictured below is the updated picture I received. I think she looks so grown up now! :)
I also got this sweet Christmas message from her.

And I got a letter from her tutor (since she's not really old enough to write the letter by herself). In it, she tells me about how she is on vacation (I think it's summer down there) and how she wants me to pray for her studies in the next year. She ends the note by sending me hugs and saying goodbye. Oh- and wishing me a Merry Christmas. :)

If you are interested in sponsoring a child, I encourage you to to go to Compassion International and pick out a waiting child to sponsor today! Click the banner below for more information. :)

And she's happy because I'm her sponsor. :)

Why do I sponsor Sandra? Because it's a way to show God's love to someone. It's a way to show a child that God loves and cares for them. That they have importance in this world. That they're worth something. Because of Compassion, Sandra has been given clothes, shoes, groceries, pots and pans, an education, a safe place to go play, and a church family. Because of Compassion, she has been shown love.

This post by Shaun Groves shows how Compassion doesn't just affect the sponsored children. Sponsorship means something to the sponsor, too. I don't know if I'll ever get the chance to meet Sandra. But, I know that she means something to me. Something more than a picture on my bulletin board. She's real. Though she's too young to write to me, her mom and brother write to tell me all about her. In the four months I've sponsored her, I've gotten two letters. And I've written 3 (1 still needs to be mailed). I can see that she's real. That it's not just sending $38 a month that makes the difference. It's the relationship formed.

Introducing...

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

This is Sandra.

She's six years old and in Kindergarten. She lives in El Salvador with her parents and four siblings. She likes to play house and with dolls. Her birthday is in September. She makes the beds and runs errands for the family as her chores. Oh- and did I mention- she is the child that I sponsor through Compassion International. I got my sponsor packet in the mail today. It made me smile. And that made me think...if I get this happy about getting a package with her picture, how much more happy will she be after she gets a letter from me? Even though I've never met her, I'm already in love with her. I want to meet her. I want to jump on a plane and fly to El Salvador and see her- right now! (And that's a big deal. I'm scared to death of flying.) But, I would do it in a heartbeat if it meant I would get to see her, and hug her, and tell her how much Jesus loves her. I've never felt like this before. I'm just so amazed at the fact that I get the opportunity to make a difference in this adorable little girl's life (I'm so not biased at all).

So. Go. Now. Click on that blue box in my sidebar and find you a "cute kid" of your own to sponsor. You can't have mine, but there's thousands more out there just waiting for someone like you to come along. Go. Be the change you want to see in the world. Make a difference in a child's life and help them have the opportunity to escape from a world of poverty and leap into the loving arms of a Savior, the one we call Jesus Christ. :)
