Dialects with Lauren

Since my dear blog friend Annie did this wonderful post (well, vlog) on dialects and it looked so fun, I knew I had to do it too. I mean, I love dialects. They're fun and fascinating.

And well...I had to tell Annie how those bubby beverages are called Coke. Not pop. Or soda. That just sounds...well...Northern. (Well, I guess Michigan is in the North. So, I guess you get a free pass on that one!)

And now, if you want to do your own (which you should because it's really fun and silly!) Here are the words and questions. Just make sure you comment so I can go check yours out! :)

words: aunt, route, wash, oil, theater, iron, salmon, caramel, fire, water, sure, data, ruin, crayon, toilet, new orleans, pecan, both, again, probably, spitting image, alabama, lawyer, coupon, mayonnaise, syrup, pajamas, caught

questions:
{one} what is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?
{two} what is the bug that curls into a ball when you touch it?
{three} what is the bubbly carbonated drink called?
{four} what do you call gym shoes?
{five} what do you say to address a group of people?
{six} what do you call a spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs?
{seven} what do you call your grandparents?
{eight} what do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?
{nine} what do you call it when it rains while the sun is shining?
{ten} what is the thing with which you change the tv channel?

  1. You are so silly. Too bad it didn't ask you to say tour;) Oh, and you need to re-do your linky graphic over there to match your new layout ------>

    Love you!

  2. I have watched four of these videos now and yours is the first in which I've heard a different term than TP-ing! I just find that fascinating.
Also, let it be known that I am one hundred percent northern. Which is why I say pop, soda, and {at restaurants} soft drinks. Although, if I ever move to the South, which my brother has said {and I agree} that I should, I promise I will convert to saying coke instead.
Or maybe I should just start saying it now, and I can add that to the unofficial list of "Reasons Annie Should Move to the South" ;]

  3. Haha! Yes, Annie...do it! :)

And I can forgive you for calling coke pop since
you promise to convert if you ever move South. :)
And...I think you need to share this list, because it would be really funny. At least, in my imagination it is!
